Dis-integrity

08Sep11

Body Integrity Identity Disorder (BIID), formerly known as Amputee Identity Disorder, is a neurological and psychological disorder that makes sufferers feel they would be happier living as an amputee. It is typically accompanied by the desire to amputate one or more healthy limbs to achieve that end.

IS the writer suffering similarly? If not of the body then of their own subjectivity. It would be better to live without the burden of consciousness. Let’s write then…to cut our experiences out, our ability to experience. It amounts to a cultivated alienation; a crafted unhappiness; an aesthetic of dissociation.
