Control

03Aug10

it is not in our control

we don’t exercise control here

all of this and none

it does not respond to commands

.

to come

to part

it recognises no legitimacy

or authority beyond

.

itself…

.

what ends in ending

a moment

shifting

a scurrying thing

that dis

sapears into holes in the wall

.

or searches nourishment

in unnoticed cleavings

a crumb or unwashed dish

no seizing as if starving

.

but sometimes beliving itself in starvation

.

when in truth overfed

burst   ing

.

a stomach ripe with abundant giving

.

never a losing

never on chalk boards

.

or in professors heads

never arithmetical or geometric

.

all these things are

.

mistaken

.

or at least play

blank as pond skaters

simply on the

surface not noticing

or taking heed

of the underneath that is never

.

underneath

except to the one

afraid of swimming

.

(the sound of lighters flaring)

.

its not in our control

but nor a beast

nor hunter with bow and arrow

.

rifle

and bloodlust

in its heart

.

its a distant star

raging

supernova

.

the gentle

breeze

containing the essence

of

tornadoes

the flame that burns

the houses down

and cooks the dinner

all the same

.

there is no response to its psalm

.

there can be no

contractual expectation

.

.

its smears nothing

but opens

every prison cell

.

every prisoner is

free

.

and always had been from the shackles

of these illusions

and aberrant relatings

.

it isn’t dead

it doesn’t cease

.

but it isn’t a grand symphony with conductor

frantic

all hands and sweat

or wind and wood and precussion

.

competeing

rising

cresendoing

not

quite ever wanting

.

to finish

.

it simpler than that

.

a

.

child at play

.

with tin whistle

.

a honey bee’s wings

.

there for you to hear

if you want to listen

.

a song

.

that can never end
