for the sake of saving a love

and building a life the proper way

he let her turn away

and when she went walking alone

he did not follow

    So who is the fool?
Her for walking away or him for not following?
I’ve just been through a similar situation
I can’t say either is the fool
Perhaps the really foolish thing would be to denigh the ending?
    Great poem.

Perhaps all three. There is no denial of the ending, only the denial of detachment and hence the continuation of pain. Yet “If the fool would persist in his folly he would become wise.” I’m not going to argue with Blake.
